What's the Classification of Tungsten Carbide?

With the development of tungsten carbide, tungsten carbide is finding its way in our daily lives and is widely used in many industries such as minding and drilling industry, cutting tools, mold industry, stone working industry, outdoor leisure use, jewellery, etc. Do you know what`s the classification of tungsten carbide?

Common cemented carbides are mainly composed of WC, which can be divided into the following categories according to whether other carbides are added:

① Tungsten cobalt cemented carbide

The main components are tungsten carbide (WC) and binder cobalt (Co).

Its grade is composed of "YG" (the initials of "hard and cobalt") and the percentage of average cobalt content.

For example, YG8 means that the average Co is 8%, and the rest is tungsten cobalt cemented carbide of tungsten carbide.

The general tungsten cobalt alloys are mainly used for cemented carbide tools, molds and geological and mineral products.

② Tungsten titanium cobalt cemented carbide

The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide (TiC) and cobalt. Its grade is composed of "YT" (the initials of "hard and titanium") and the average content of titanium carbide.

For example, YT15 represents that the average TiC=15%, and the rest are tungsten titanium cobalt cemented carbides with tungsten carbide and cobalt content.

③ Tungsten titanium tantalum (niobium) cemented carbide

The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide (or niobium carbide) and cobalt. This kind of cemented carbide is also called universal cemented carbide or universal cemented carbide.

Its grade is composed of "YW" (the prefix of "hard" and "ten thousand" Chinese phonetic alphabet) and sequential number, such as YW1.
